Toxoplasmosis has emerged as a major disease in patients with AIDS. As a cause of encephalitis, it is occurring in 25 to 50 of all AIDS patients in a number of countries of Western Europe. One reason for this is the high prevalence of latent Toxoplasma infection in the general population of these nations, including France, Austria, Germany, Belgium.
