Interest in this benign hepatocellular neoplasm increased sharply when its relationship to oral contraceptive use became established in the nineteen seventies.12 The risk appears to increase with time and oestrogen content. Liver cell adenomas also develop in women of child-bearing age not taking oral contraceptives. Less commonly they are found in males. Children and young adults are occasionally affected.34 Androgenic steroids are a further predisposing cause,5 as is type I glycogen storage disease.6…
